The Problem With Mercury

The problem is Mercury simply "Loves Sulfur" too much. So much so, that it will compete with other molecules for Sulfur and can usually "steal" Sulfur out of other molecular structures, in effect killing them.
Mercury (Hg) interacts with brain tubulin and disassembles microtubules that maintain neurite structure. -reference-
If it can't steal Sulfur, Mercury will bond to the Sulfur atom the best it can. This usually prevents the molecule from performing its function. Sulfur is part of our blood cells as well as many other proteins and enzymes. Many systems in our bodies are very much like today's Industrial Assembly Lines. If one work station stops functioning the whole system can backup or get very crazy.
Hemoglobin
(The oxygen carrying protein in red blood cells.) (C738 H1,166 Fe N203 O208 S2)4
Enzymes perform very specialized functions within our body's chemical assembly line. It shouldn't be very hard to visualize the whole process going out of whack if someone doesn't show up for work. Imagine cars coming off the assembly line without tires, or headlights, or oil light sensors, or fuses — you get the idea. From our viewpoint, Enzymes are really "Hyper" little fellows. In the lab, they have been clocked doing Two Million Reactions Per Minute ! (2,000,000 /min.) That means in a 24-hour period, they can do their job 2,880,000,000 times.
(Two Billion, Eight Hundred Eighty Million Reactions per Day) At that speed, these guys could count our national debt in only 1,875 days.
(5.1 years)
Today a typical adult carries ten amalgams weighing a total of about ten grams, of which five grams is mercury. What little research there is on the rate at which mercury escapes amalgam suggests about half a gram of mercury will escape from these ten fillings over the ten-year life of these fillings, and most of this mercury will be absorbed by the bearer of the amalgams. To put a half-gram in context, consider these facts: Half a gram of mercury dropped into a ten-acre lake warrants the promulgation of a fish advisory for the lake in Minnesota; the tennis shoes with mercury in them that were banned by the Minnesota legislature in 1994 contained half a gram of mercury per shoe.   -reference- (0.5 gram in a 180 lb. body produces a concentration of 6.168 PPM. Compare this level, to the elements in the " Water of Life". —TRC—)

There are about 1,501,430,636,558,496,585,414 atoms in 0.5 grams of mercury. Each and every atom of mercury is able to disable an enzyme or other critical protein in your body. Over ten years, if the body fails to remove this mercury, a lot of damage can be done. Unfortunately, mercury has ways of "hiding in the body" and can be quite hard to remove.
This 0.5 grams of mercury can produce a potential loss of 4,324,120,233,288,470,165,993,719,156,572 chemical reactions in your body. (Based on our lab example / over 10 years) That number of seconds equals 137,023,101,670,864,392,919,414.6 years ! As you can see, it is quite difficult to grasp the scale on which all these chemical reactions are occurring, and we are only considering one source of mercury and this one toxic atom. Mercury intoxication often produces a psychotic state resulting in hyper-excitability. The expression 'Mad as a Hatter' originates from the hat-makers of the 19th century who were chronically exposed to mercury compounds used in making felt and beaver hats. Mercury was also used to preserve leather and the furs for coats.
— MAD AS A HATTER —
Few people who use the phrase today realize that there's a story of human suffering behind it; the term actually derives from an early industrial occupational disease. Felt hats were once very popular in North America and Europe; an example is the top hat. The best sorts were made from beaver fur, but cheaper ones used furs such as rabbit instead. A complicated set of processes was needed to turn the fur into a finished hat. With the cheaper sorts of fur, an early step was to brush a solution of a mercury compound - usually mercurous nitrate - on to the fur to roughen the fibers and make them mat more easily, a process called carroting because it made the fur turn orange. Beaver fur had natural serrated edges that made this unnecessary, one reason why it was preferred, but the cost and scarcity of beaver meant that other furs had to be used. Whatever the source of the fur, the fibers were then shaved off the skin and turned into felt; this was later immersed in a boiling acid solution to thicken and harden it. Finishing processes included steaming the hat to shape and ironing it. In all these steps, hatters working in poorly ventilated workshops would breathe in the mercury compounds and accumulate the metal in their bodies. We now know that mercury is a cumulative poison that causes kidney and brain damage. Physical symptoms include trembling (known at the time as hatter's shakes), loosening of teeth, loss of co-ordination, and slurred speech; mental ones include irritability, loss of memory, depression, anxiety, and other personality changes. This was called mad hatter syndrome. — Source — The people who then wore these "Fur Products" were also Poisoned !!!

Mercury is added to products to stop things from growing. Mercury was commonly added to exterior house paint until the late 1990's to keep mold from growing on the paint. Exterior paint is designed to "powder-off" instead of cracking and peeling, so the mercury enters the environment as a fine powder. (I highly recommend that you filter the air coming into your environment.) Mercury is added at even higher levels to marine paint for ships. The object here is to keep barnacles off the hull. The solvents used in these paints continues to "out-gas" for many months, and are very good at carrying mercury into the body via the respiratory tract. Mercury is also used in ammunition and many explosives, especially military types. Studies have shown that toxic levels of lead can be detected in blood samples, after only a couple of hours of indoor target practice, in a poorly ventilated room. This study failed to measure mercury levels, but there is a direct relationship between the amount of lead absorbed and the amount of mercury absorbed by human bodies.

Cellular Immunity

Antibodies* contain sulfur  and are therefore attacked by mercury — thereby destroying the body's natural disease defense system.     [ * an·ti·bod·y n. A protein substance produced in the blood or tissues in response to a specific antigen, such as a bacterium or a toxin. Antibodies destroy or weaken bacteria and neutralize organic poisons, thus forming the basis of immunity. ]
Major Immunoglobulin Classes Major Subclasses of Human IgG An antibody is about 1/700 the size of a red cell. The immune system needs to be able to create an enormous number of antibodies, e.g., perhaps 10 billion B lymphocytes, each able to produce more than 100 million different antibody proteins. Since humans have only about 100,000 genes, it becomes impossible for our genes to specify each one of these proteins. Newborn children receive specific environmental antibodies through nursing. (Mother's milk) Our bodies are constantly creating new antibodies in response to the many different life forms attacking our bodies. In cellular immunity, cells play the most important role in destroying foreign invaders. The cells involved are macrophages and the various subsets of T cells: helper CD4+ cells, suppressor CD8+ cells, cytotoxic T killer cells, and natural (NK) killer cells. Monokines and lymphokines secreted by macrophages and CD4+ helper cells, respectively, play an important role in directing and augmenting both cellular and humoral immune responses.   — Reference —

No Amount of Mercury Can Be Considered Safe !

Spiritual Attitude

If your cancer has caused you to stop, think, pray, and know God better, it has been a blessing to you.

If your cancer has caused you to realize the importance and magnificence of this temple wherein your soul dwells, you have been doubly blessed.

If your cancer has caused you to look within and ask the Christ to dwell within you, you have been thrice blessed.

Add Parsley to your juices, stews, and soups!

Though traditionally overlooked as just a garnish, parsley is a giant amongst other herbs in terms of health benefits, and in such small amounts too. Here are six reasons why a sprinkle of parsley can not only make your meals tastier, but also your body healthier.
Anti-Cancer
Studies show that myristicin, an organic compound found in the essential oil of parsley, not only inhibits tumor formation (especially in the lungs), but also activates the enzyme glutathione-S-transferase, which helps the molecule glutathione attach to, and fight against, oxidized molecules. Myristicin can also neutralize carcinogens like benzopyrene in cigarette smoke that can pass through the body, consequently fighting against colon and prostate cancer.
Antioxidants
Parsley is rich with an antioxidant arsenal that includes luteolin, a flavonoid that searches out and eradicates free radicals in the body that cause oxidative stress in cells. Luteolin also promotes carbohydrate metabolism and serves the body as an anti-inflammatory agent. Furthermore, two tablespoons of parsley contain 16% of the RDA of vitamin C and over 12% of the RDA of vitamin A - two powerful antioxidants.
Anti-Inflammatory
Along with luteolin, the vitamin C found in parsley serves as an effective anti-inflammatory agent within the body. When consumed regularly, they combat the onset of inflammatory disorders, such as osteoarthritis (the degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone) and rheumatoid arthritis (a disease causing inflammation in the joints).
Healthy Immune System
The vitamin C and vitamin A found in parsley serve to strengthen the body's immune system, though in different ways. Vitamin C is necessary for collagen, the main structural protein found in connective tissue. This essential nutrient will not only accelerate the body's ability to repair wounds, but also maintain healthy bones and teeth. Vitamin A, on the other hand, fortifies the entry points into the human body, such as mucous membranes, the lining of the eyes, and respiratory, urinary and intestinal tracts. Moreover, lymphocytes, or white blood cells, rely on vitamin A to fight infection in the body.
A Healthy Heart Homocysteine, an amino acid that occurs in the body, threatens the body's blood vessels when its levels become too high. Luckily, the folate (or vitamin B9) found in parsley helps convert homocysteine into harmless molecules. A regular garnish of parsley can help ward off cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis.
Vitamin K
Two tablespoons of parsley have a whopping 153% of the RDA of vitamin K, which is necessary for the synthesis of osteocalcin, a protein that strengthens the composition of our bones. Vitamin K also prevents calcium build-up in our tissue that can lead to atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Finally, the vitamin K found in parsley is essential for synthesizing sphingolipid, the fat needed to maintain the myelin sheath around our nerves, and therefore our nervous system as a whole.

Coffee Enemas for Heavy Metal Detoxification

Coffee Enemas for Heavy Metal Detoxification.

    Serious Detoxification
    Valerie Saxion, ND.
    http://www.silvercreeklabs.com/
"To detoxify in serious conditions, take two coffee enemas per day. .Follow this routine for two weeks, then coffee enemas should be reduced to only one per week for one month. Your body may have a build-up of toxins or poisons from time to time. Symptoms indicating toxicity are a decrease in appetite, headaches, increase in tiredness, and a general lack of well-being. When these occur, increase coffee enemas once again to one per day until symptoms subside, or for a maximum of three to four days. Then return to a routine." [1/31/04] Show Notes "... Well, mercury is a cumulative poison! There is no barrier that prohibits mercury from reaching the brain cells and it is retained in the central nerous system. It’s presense there can prevent both the normal entry of nutrients into the cells and the removal of wastes from the cells. It can bind to immune cells distorting them and interfering with normal immune responses. Significant amounts of mercury in the body can be the root cause of :
    Permanent kidney damage
    Cardiac problems
    Respiratory problems
    Arthritis
    Allergies
    Depression
    Dermatitis
    Dizziness
    Fatigue
    Gum disease
    Nausea
    Vomiting
    Hair loss
    Insomnia
    Headaches
    Joint pain
    Slurred speech
    Memory loss
    Diarrhea
    Excessive salivation
    Confusion
    Hyperactivity
    Irritability

Excessive mercury poisoning can mimic symptoms of MS and Lou Gehrig’s disease. According to the World Health Organization, amalgam fillings are a prime source if mercury exposure. More than 180 million Americans have mercury amalgam dental fillings. When dentist refer to silver fillings, they are usually referring to amalgam fillings, which are silver in color but actually contain approximately 50% mercury, 25% silver, and 25% of various other metals. None as toxic as the mercury! One amalgam filling can release 3 – 17 mcg of mercury each day.
The mercury vapor released combines with chemicals in the mouth and create minute amounts of methyl mercury, which is absorbed through the tissues of the mouth and air passages and transported in the blood to the brain and other body tissues. Many have suffered for years from various health problems such as candida, muscle spasms, chronic fatigue, and recurring infections and after having the fillings removed and replaced with non toxic fillings, the disorders began to clear up! Am I talking to you?
Well, lets find our what you can do about it!
As quickly as possible get the fillings removed!
Wait only if pregnant or nursing!
      • In the meantime, take at least 200 mcg of
Selenium, it neutralizes the effect of mercury
      • Vitamin E – 400-800 IU per day, it works with selenium to neutralize mercury.

      • B-Complex – protects the brain from damage
      • Apple pectin – aids in removing toxic metals from the body

      • Glutathione
      • Plus L-methionine and L-cystein
Needed for sulfur, also helps to detoxify harmful Metals and toxins.
Take as directed on an empty stomach, take with water or juice, not milk. Take 50 mg of vitamin B-6 and 100 mg of vitamin C for better absorption.
      • Vitamin A – with cartenoid complex w/ beta carotene. 25,000 IU
A powerful antioxidant, destroying free radicals.
      • Chelation of course through IV or suppository.

      • When getting the mercury removed take activated Charcoal at least 15 minutes before removal as it will absorb and flush the mercury. 3-4 capsules.

Drink only distilled water, eat organic foods, eat lots of fiber especially with apple pectin. Always broil your fish, if there is mercury in the fish, fish also rids the body of mercury so by broiling the fish the mercury which is stored in the fat is carried out in the broiling process. Never chew gum with mercury fillings in your mouth.
Stay away from extremely hot drinks, the heat seems to draw out the mrcury.
Garlic with each meal protects your body from the mercury released when chewing.
Take at least 1000 mg of vit C with each meal.
Use oat bran daily as it is helpful in removing mercury from the bowels.
When you sweat, be sure to shower off asap so as not to reabsorb the toxins.

    Published: Monday, 8-Nov-2004
... Toxins like mercury, tin and nickel leak steadily from dental fillings. Alternative practitioners assist in this important work as much as possible by cleaning out the liver, digestive system, kidneys, lymph and the bloodstream. A variety of detoxification approaches are used, including colon cleansing, fasting, chelation, water therapy, heat therapy, and nutritional, herbal, and homeopathic methods. In the early 1900s, Max Gerson introduced coffee into the enema procedure, which causes the liver to release stored up toxins into the digestive system to be eliminated. ... The liver is cleansed using various means. The coffee used in enemas, stimulates the liver to purge itself.

Integrative Health & Self-Healing ... For thousands of years, the South Asian Siddha Vaidya tradition has known about herbal formulations for detoxifying mercury, silver, tin and other heavy metals. These scourges of our time, thanks to the pervasive use of dental amalgams and heavy metals, lead to severe health problems and environmental pollution (please see other articles in the Summer 2002 IH&H issue # 1 on mercury toxicity and detoxification). The Western tradition also had purgatives.
The coffee enema, referred to in the past as "royal flushing," actually detoxifies the liver and gallbladder. It is most beneficial for patients with toxemia. In Tijuana, Mexico, where alternative cancer and medical clinics are flourishing, coffee enemas are employed regularly. Heroic figures in modern complementary and alternative medicine, such as Max Gerson and William Kelley, consider the coffee enema to be a necessity for cleansing the body of toxins and cell debris, when used in combination with good nutrients and digestive enzymes. Of the four routes of elimination in the body: — the kidneys, lungs, colon and the skin — the latter is most often neglected. Yet it is a very effective means of detoxification. Modern skin detoxification techniques include far infrared sauna, steam baths and clay baths. Far infrared can penetrate the tissue deeper than other types of sauna, and thus has an advantage for environmental detoxification. ... Enemas can also be used but are normally reserved for cases where intense cleansing is required, as is often the case in using detoxification as a way to treat cancer (such as coffee enema used in the Gerson Therapy). ... ... Up to 25 percent of the US population suffer from heavy metal poisoning especially from lead, mercury, and aluminum. ... Heavy metal toxicity has been linked to several diseases including Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease and severe neurological disorders. Other common sources of heavy metals include lead from pesticides sprays and cooking utensils; cadmium and lead from cigarette smoke; mercury from dental fillings, contaminated fish, and aluminum from antacids, cookware, and soda cans. Hair mineral analysis is a convenient but often unreliable screening test.
The most accurate measurement is by blood analysis of actual toxin levels within the red blood cells. Many toxic metals have a tendency to accumulate inside the cell where most of the damage is done. Serum toxic metal levels do not correlate well with intracellular toxic metal levels. The early signs of heavy metal poisoning are vague or often attributed to other diseases. The early symptoms of heavy metal poisoning include headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, indigestion, tremors, constipation, anemia, indigestion and tremors. Mild toxicity symptoms include impaired memory and distorted thinking ability. Severe toxicity can lead to death.

    Solution:
Chelation therapy using EDTA to bind toxic metals, high potency multiple-vitamin-and mineral supplement, vitamin C and B complex, sulfur containing amino acids (methionine, cysteine, and taurine), and high sulfur-content foods such as garlic, onion, eggs, water-soluble fibers such as guar gum, oat bran, pectin and psyllium seed. ... The symptoms of heavy metal poisoning in the liver include psychological and neurological symptoms such as depression, headache, mental confusion, mental illness, abnormal nerve reflexes and tingling in the hands. The solution is to take compounds that support the liver's detoxification mechanism.

... A published scientific abstract from a foreign medical journal written by Pisai Egyetem et al (1) titled “Different sensitivity to acid reaction of the AIDS virus and virus-producing cells” has some important observations that can be related to enemas that are acidic (either with vinegar added or coffee) and to the pH of the colon. What the researchers found is that cell free (HIV) virus gradually loses its infectivity in an acidic medium and loses it permanently when the pH is below 6.0. The more acid the colon, the more damage is done to the membranes of the virus and infectivity is lost and is not regained even when the pH is increased to over 6.0 again. ... For Starters - the first month - use some product that is effective against parasites: Colon Green Powder (Futurebiotics). I mentioned this product about a year ago after one of our readers who had constantly sinking stools told me that this was the only colon cleansing supplement he had found that restored normal floating stools. This formula contains psyllium and is high in chlorophyll from alfalfa, parsley and chlorella. Chlorophyll will kill a wide range of bacteria and other pathogens in the lower large intestines. It also contains black walnut extract to kill parasites and has FOS from artichokes and 50 mg of cayenne per serving plus ginger root, beet crystals, 5 additional herbs and vegetarian enzymes. One tablespoon twice daily with water taken on an empty stomach is what I suggest for the first month. This product would be a good choice to use for a month and then switch to another formula like Perfect Plus. Colon Green Powder costs about $16 a month. Other products like "Clear," Black walnut capsules, castor oil capsules and Clarkia 100 also work against parasites.

Perfect Plus (Soluble Rice Bran) by SGS Research (Irvine, CA) is a colon cleansing formula that contains soluble rice bran as its principle ingredient with no added herbs. It primary benefit is that it reduces some TH2 cytokines and improves cell mediated immunity and normalize blood sugar levels. Soluble rice bran contains 74 antioxidants plus trace minerals and immune modulators called “sterols.” Sterols reduce IL-6 levels that are a major problem in persons immune-compromised from any cause. Sterols also increase IL-2 and gamma-interferon, increase DHEA levels and lower cortisol levels. A daily serving of 3 level tablespoons contains about 120 mg of sterols. Sterols are also found in raw sesame seeds and a candy called Halvah that is made from crushed raw sesame seeds and honey. Perfect Plus also has 133 mg of MethylSulfonylMethane (MSM) a biological form of sulfur plus 1000 mg of TriMethylGlycine (TMG) from beets plus 1000 mg of FOS (from artichokes) that promotes the growth of friendly flora. Both MSM and TMG help in detoxification of the cells and support the process of methylation. Diabetics who use Perfect Plus usually need to reduce their insulin use as blood sugar levels fall. One person I know discontinued using insulin after starting on Perfect Plus as their blood sugar levels returned to normal.

Diabetics need to take it in 3 doses - 1 tablespoon each about 8 hours apart and monitor their blood sugar levels daily and on the first day before taking their next insulin dose. One person with diabetes for 20 years had to discontinue insulin the very first day they started on Perfect Plus as the insulin caused the blood sugar levels to go low - the opposite of diabetes. Perfect Plus tastes pleasant and costs about $30 a month. ... The purpose of the coffee enemas is to detoxify the liver by opening up bile ducts from the liver. ... The treatment will become more effective the more liquid you can absorb as it will penetrate deeper into the colon. With practice, you should be able to absorb about 3 cups. If the stools are small in diameter indicating colon inflammation, expect to draw in less liquid in the beginning. Some people add 1 cup of aloe vera juice to the enema water as well. ...

Apr 15, 2004 ... [Ochi] Scobie chose a gall bladder and liver cleanse, created by David Jubb, owner of Jubb's Longevity, a health food store in Manhattan's Alphabet City. For eleven days, Scobie avoided all solid food, and adhered to a cycle of flushing and elimination, the pay-off of which would be a "bounty" of gallstones purged from her body. Scobie's only nourishment came from non-dairy smoothies, three times daily. The rest of the day she drank a concoction of water, raw apple cider vinegar, and raw honey, mixed with a laxative. Three times during her fast were designated "flush" days, when she was directed to drink 8 to ten ounces of olive oil, followed by a coffee enema (which aided in elimination). In between these steps, she was instructed to rest with a warm castor oil pack over her gall bladder area, massaging the area to soften stones. "It's the most disgusting thing I've ever done," she said. "I've just been sleeping all day, on and off, just to make the day go by faster." ... Long-term dehydration, said Ben-Dor, can lead to very serious problems, like an over-stressed liver or even cardiac arrhythmia, a disturbance in the heart rhythm.
    COMMENT
2005-March: The use of coffee enemas for detoxification have become increasingly known and used since 2000. Two of the three instances of acute dental mercury toxicity I have had were before that time and there was no reference to that option that I could find either in the literature or by word of mouth. I could have found the option by asking of Spiritual Guidance. As too often happens, we do not get the answer that we need and is best if we fail to think outside and beyond our knowledge and experiences. Coffee that is drank has no detoxification benefits.
Indeed, it can even increase toxicity in persons. It is well metabolised by the time it reaches the small intestine, and particularly useless for the detoxification purpose by the time it reaches the colon. This is an example of the Relevancy and Benefit of HOW a substance is used. Try never to assume that our limited knowledge of ANY particular supplement or substance, therapy or activity, represents the only use that we can make of it. Depending on application, poisons can become beneficial, and remedies can become poisons.

Gerson Protocol: juices and storage recommendations

The Gerson cancer therapy is an integrated set of medical treatments which has cured many cases of advanced cancer. Essentially, Dr Gerson in the course of 30 years of clinical experimentation applied many various combinations of treatments on cancer patients, always retaining that which was successful and discarding that which was not. Thus, an integrated pattern of treatment which cured many cases of advanced cancer evolved.

    ORANGE JUICE
Gerson felt that this was the least important juice and added it primarily for the convenience of the patient in that so many people are used to orange juice to start the day. Recent research indicates that there may be some undesirable aspects to orange juice, such as excess mucus formation when large quantities are consumed, although we have not experienced this with Gerson patients. Any patient experiencing adverse reactions or simply dislike for the orange juice may, unless otherwise indicated, replace it with apple juice or one of the other standard Gerson juices. Take no more than 1 citrus juice per day. The juice requires 3-4 oranges or 1-2 grapefruits. Use a reamer-type juicer, either manual or electric. Some models have aluminum screens or reservoirs for the juice. These should be avoided in favor of plastic or stainless steel.
We do not recommend the use of non-reamer type juicers into which a half orange or lemon is inserted whole. The citrus peels contain undesirable fatty and aromatic acids, as well as commonly being coated with beeswax or another protective sealant.

You can use any kind of orange or grapefruit, as long as it is organically grown. Oranges and grapefruit should be kept refrigerated. If you prefer juice to be closer to room temperature, remove three or four oranges from the refrigerator before going to bed.

    GREEN LEAF JUICE

This is the other "core" juice of the Gerson protocol. The green leaf juice is extremely rich in iron and other minerals, and very high in chlorophyll. It is a substance similar to human hemoglobin, and is the richest source of oxidizing enzymes in the Gerson protocol. It is extremely live and active, often having a foam "head" at the top of the glass when fresh out of the press. This juice is a little more difficult to tolerate, and patients feeling nauseated will frequently have some difficulty drinking and keeping it down. However, it provides tremendous benefit to the patient, and it is often prescribed in higher quantity in anemic patients in order to raise hemoglobin levels. It also replaces some of the carrot/apple juices in diabetic, hypoglycemic and candida patients as it is lower in sugar.

The "recipe" for the green leaf juice is a bit more varied than the others. Of the following list, some items will be available, some may not be available in your area, and some are seasonal. Use whatever is available, but let your choices be dictated more by what is actually available than your like or dislike of a particular ingredient. It is noteworthy that the darker, stronger-flavored items such as chard and red cabbage are richer in chlorophyll and other nutrients than the lighter, less flavorful vegetables. Also, please do not use any greens or ingredients other than the ones listed. Do not substitute other items. Obtain as many of the following as possible. The suggested quantities assume about half of the listed items will be available at any given time. Adjust accordingly.

    Escarole 1-2 leaves
Lettuce 3-4 leaves (use iceberg if no others are available)
Swiss (Green) Chard 1-3 leaves, depending on size
    Red Chard same as above
    Endive 1-2 leaves
    Red Leaf Lettuce 3-4 leaves
    Green Leaf Lettuce 3-4 leaves
    Red Cabbage 2-3 leaves
    Romaine 2-3 leaves
Beet Tops (young inner leaves) 2-3 leaves
    Green Pepper 1/2 medium sized
    Watercress 1-2 sprigs
One medium apple (see above for types of apples to use).

Greens should be washed, taking care to rinse off sand or soil that is often present at the base of the leaves. Shake of the water or put the greens in a salad spinner to remove excess moisture. Cut off the bottom portion of chard stems or any other fibrous leaves.

Using a two-step (grinder/press) juicer, grind and collect pulp in a bowl. When all produce has been ground, stir thoroughly, but not so much as to introduce unnecessary air into the pulp. Place a "microwave-safe," undyed, chemical free paper towel on top of the juice cloth, then put about a cup of pulp onto the towel and cloth. Fold tightly and press. If you're using an electric press, raise the juice part slowly to avoid having pulp squirt out of the cloth. Using multiple juicing cloths, you can prepare the second cloth while the first one is pressing.

Also, some people will fold over the squashed cloth/pulp package and press it again to get a little more ice out of the pulp. After pressing, the remaining pulp, coveniently packaged in the paper towel, can be discarded. The green juice is much more active than the carrot or carrot/apple juices and should be consumed immediately. Dr. Gerson did not recommend storage of the green juice for any length of time before consumption.

    CARROT APPLE JUICE

This juice is one of the two "core" juices (excuse the pun!) used on the Gerson Therapy. It has a pleasant flavor, is easy on the digestive system, and is usually consumed in larger quantities than any other juice (five glasses per day in the normal regimen).

Exactly why Dr. Gerson chose this particular combination is not known. Research has revealed an apparently synergistic relationship between the carrots and apples that provides greater nutrient absorption when the apples and carrots are juiced together than when the juice of either is used alone. It is not known exactly what factors contribute to this. We do know that malic acid present in apples assists in absorption of beta-carotene in the carrots.

There are, of course, many other elements derived from the juices in addition to beta-carotene. This juice is high in calcium, provides protein trace minerals and numerous other minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals. This juice requires approximately 8-12 oz each of carrots and (preferably tart) apples such as Granny Smith, Macintosh, Ida Red, Pippin, and Gala.

The carrot/apple juice, like all of the other juices, should be consumed immediately after pressing, but may be kept for 2-3 hours in a glass lined thermos if the patient has returned to work or must go out of the house for any other reason. The preparation of juices in advance should be done only when there is no other alternative or, on consultation with an experienced Gerson physician.

    DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS

Check out this list of deficiency symptoms to see if you are lacking in some nutrients.
    DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS
    By Walter Last
Eye, hair, nail, mouth and skin symptoms are among the early outward warning signs of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The following compilations may help in diagnosing and treating these deficiencies. However, increased metabolic requirements for indicated deficiencies may persist for a long time after the outward symptoms have disappeared. Many listed symptoms may also be caused or aggravated by allergies and problems with the blood sugar and fat metabolism.
The right-hand column gives the primary deficiencies first, additional treatment or cause is given in parentheses. For each condition only the more prominent nutrients are mentioned. However, all the typical nutrients should be supplied in increased amounts in the treatment of all conditions.

    Foods Containing B17 (Nitrilosides)

Vitamin B17 appears in abundance in untamed nature. Because B17 is bitter to the taste, in man's attempt to improve tastes and flavors for his own pleasure, he has eliminated bitter substances like B17 by selection and cross-breeding. It can be stated as a general rule that many of the foods that have been domesticated still contain the vitamin B17 in that part not eaten by modem man, such as the seeds in apricots. Listed below is an evaluation of some of the more common foods. Keep in mind that these are averages only and that specimens vary widely depending on variety, locale, soil, and climate.
